Kirkwood Mountain Resort, nestled in the scenic Sierra Nevada range, is a winter wonderland renowned for its exceptional snow and diverse terrain. Located about 35 miles south of South Lake Tahoe and roughly 150 miles from San Francisco, Kirkwood offers easy access to its pristine slopes and high-alpine charm. Situated at over 7,800 feet, the resort is celebrated for its deep powder and thrilling descents, drawing skiers and snowboarders from far and wide.
The resort features 15 lifts, which includes two high-speed quads and a gondola, making it easier than ever to make your way across its expansive terrain. With more than 2,300 acres, Kirkwood houses 86 trails that are welcoming to a variety of skill levels, from mellow beginner runs to thrilling expert chutes and tree-lined glades. With all this terrain variation it makes for a great destination for any type of rider, family or friends group.
Kirkwood’s après-ski scene is vibrant and welcoming. At the resort there are a number of dining options for visitors from cozy cafes for a hot beverage or upscale restaurants for some fine wines. If your looking to recount the day on the slopes and unwind over a cocktail, the resort also has some fine bar's and lounges to choose from for a relaxing evening.
Getting to Kirkwood is straightforward, with well-maintained roads providing scenic access through the Sierra Nevada. By Air
The closest major airport is Reno-Tahoe International Airport, about an hour and a half drive from Kirkwood. Visitors can also fly into Sacramento International Airport for additional options.
By Train
While there is no direct train to Kirkwood, visitors can take Amtrak to the Sacramento or Reno stations and then use a shuttle service or rental car to reach the resort.
By Car
Kirkwood is easily accessible by car via Highway 88. In winter, it’s advisable to check road conditions and carry chains. Parking is available at the resort.
By Bus
Several shuttle services operate from South Lake Tahoe and Reno to Kirkwood. These can be booked in advance and provide a convenient way to reach the resort without driving.
By Private Transfer
